Katie Qualifies for NAIA Outdoor Championships

In her first outdoor race of the season, TEAM member Katie Burnett qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the 5000m RW in a time of 27:25.00. This is a new personal best by almost a minute. Here are the full results:

Confidence Booster for Maria

Today Maria Michta jumped into a local 10km road running race on Long Island to test her fitness before she races at the USA World Racewalk Cup trials that are just 2 weeks away. Maria went for it right from the gun and managed 3 new personal bests along the way. Yes 3...how is that you may be thinking, well she PB'd her first 5km with a 23:35 and her 2nd 5km was 22:51 another new 5km PB and then the 3rd PB was her final 10km time in 46:26, very impressive! We look forward to seeing how Maria does in her first 20km race of the season and many other TEAM members that will also be competing on Long Island in just 2 weeks.

Lauren Breaks 50 Minute Barrier!

On Sunday March 14th in Huntington Beach, California, Lauren Forgues raced a 10km in hopes of breaking 50 minutes for the first time. Only a few days after coming down from a very successful altitude training camp in Flagstaff, Arizona Lauren was ready for a strong race. She managed to race very even splits, walking by herself to finish up in 49:52, a personal best by 38 seconds and her first time breaking the 50 minute barrier. This is a very promising performance so early in the season with many more racing to come. Next Lauren will race at the USA World Racewalk Cup Trials on Long Island, NY where she will have many people to walk with to try and walk even faster.

Success Again at National Scholastic Indoor Championships

Tyler Sorensen, Molly Josephs and Nicolette Sorensen continued their successful weekend of racing. The day after the NIN they raced at the National Scholastic's in New York City. Tyler started off the morning by almost setting another personal best. He was only 2 seconds off his time from the NINs. Tyler defended his title from last year by beating 2009 NIN Champion Alex Chavez. Molly and Nicolette continued their friendly rivalry. Just like at the NIN they ended up finishing one after the other with Molly coming out on top again. Both had great times, not too far off their personal bests from the day before. Now all the high schoolers are done with their indoor seasons. Stay tuned as they will all race at the USA World Racewalk Cup Trials on April 11th on Long Island, NY where they will be vying for a spot on the USA racewalk team that will compete in Chihuahua, Mexico in May.

Boys Impress at Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston

Trevor Barron and Tyler Sorensen both competed in the 1 mile racewalk at the Nike Indoor Nationals. Trevor was attempting to break his own National record that he set at the Millrose Games a few months earlier. After having a fairly heavy week of training before the race, he was unable to break his record however he was only a few seconds off and still broke the Senior record. Tyler who had been suffering from a hamstring pull earlier in the week still managed to break his personal best by 8 seconds. Tyler's result was also a sophomore record that was previously held by 2 x Olympian Kevin Eastler from 17 years ago. It was a great day for the boys.

High School Indoor National Championships this Weekend!

This weekend there is the annual two High School Indoor National Championships. The first one, Nike Indoor Nationals is in Boston, MA on Saturday and the second one, National Scholastic Indoors, is in New York, NY on Sunday. Four of our TEAMmates (Trevor Barron, Tyler Sorensen, Molly Josephs and Nicolette Sorensen) will be competing. Tyler is the defending champion from the National Scholastics while Trevor recently set the high school national record at the Millrose Games in January that had stood for 20 years. Last year Molly was 3rd at NIN and 5th at NSIC and Nicolette was 4th and 8th.

Molly Places 4th at the New York State Championships

Today at the New York State T&F Championships, Molly Josephs placed 4th as a 10th grader against a really strong group of girls. It was her best race so far this season as she started the race off really smart staying behind the main group and walked a smart and conservative first lap. We are so proud of Molly!

Klaus Finishes up the World Masters with a 4th Place

Today Klaus raced in the final racewalk event of the World Master's Indoor T&F Championships in Kamloops, BC, Canada. In the 10km RW race he finished in 56:22.5, good enough for 4th place. He was trying to help his German teammates medal in the team portion of the competition but unfortunately one of his teammates was disqualified. Here are the full results:

Katie Wins Silver at NAIA Championships!

Runner's Space Interview with Maria

Yesterday we had equally as much success with the women as we did with the men on Saturday. Maria Michta raced really smart and won her first major National Championship winning the race in 13:51. Our TEAMmate Lauren Forgues also competed and had a very strong race finishing 4th in 14:11, only 2 seconds off 3rd place. It was a very successful weekend for the TEAM. Watch Maria's interview:
