Double T's Excel at World Juniors

On Friday, July 23rd, Trevor and Tyler competed in Moncton, Canada at the World Junior Track and Field Championships over 10,000m's. The race started at 12:20pm in hot and humid conditions. Both boys started off the race very smart and went at a conservative pace, following their race plan. They had Coach Tim trackside telling them their lap splits as they went by.

Trevor was about 40m's from the leaders, keeping them in his sights so that he was able to pick people off as they started to fall back. Trevor continued to get stronger and stronger as the race progressed and seemed to have been in a good position to be able to strike against the leaders but the top 3 boys put in a big surge and Trevor simply couldnt respond and catch some of the other boys infront of him. He finished in a very impressive performance of 41:50 and 7th place, a new American Junior Record by 32 seconds the highest placing ever for the US at World Juniors.

Tyler started off almost at the very back of the field and just started to inch his way up the field with very consistent splits. Tyler got into a very good groove and managed to stay in it and keep picking off the field. He finished in a very impressive 1:35 last lap to finish in 43:55, only 2 seconds off his PB and in 15th place.

The boys did GREAT and we are all so proud of them! Both of them have had really strong international performances this year.

Next up we have the Canadian Track and Field Championships on Friday, July 30th where Rachel will look to defend her National title, Maria will try to put out a good effort over 20km's and Tyler and Nicolette represent the USA over Canada at the Junior Dual meet.

Stay tuned!

Silver for Lauren at NACAC U-23

This past weekend in Miramar, Florida TEAM member Lauren Forgues represented the USA at the North American, Central American and Caribbean U-23 Championships. On Saturday morning in very brutal weather conditions she walked 10km's on the track. She started off the race in second place with a Mexican walker bursting into first. Lauren came through 5k in 24:59. In the second half of the race, Lauren and the lead Mexican walker were walking the same pace but since the Mexican girl had gotten such a big lead in the first 5k, Lauren simply couldnt catch her. Lauren ended up finishing a very strong 2nd place.

Seniors Continue Success on 2nd Day

On day 2 of the racewalks at Nationals four more TEAM members were hoping to emulate the Juniors success from the day before. Unfortunately the weather was the same as the day before, pouring rain and lightning. The rain had stopped by the time everyone started warming up but unfortunately the lightning was still striking. The race had to be postponed by 15 minutes but luckily for the athletes the temperature was cool and perfect for racing.

First up was the men. Leading the TEAM was Coach and still active athlete, Tim Seaman. With hopes to continue the winning streak of the TEAM, Tim started off in the lead pack and looked very comfortable with the pace. After a few kilometers Tim and John Nunn separated from the rest of the group and it looked like it was going to be a fight for first between these two men. Unfortunately for Tim, he received 2 red cards by 6km's and was forced to tell John that the judges decided that John was going to be the winner today and Tim had to slow down to avoid disqualification. Luckily Tim was well ahead of 3rd place that he was able to just keep an easy pace to maintain his 2nd place. Tim finished in an easy 1:33:10 in 2nd place.

Three minutes after the men took off, it was the women's turn. Representing the TEAM was Maria, Lauren and Katie. Time was not the goal today, the goal for the ladies was to race hard and to finish as high as possible. As usual, Teresa Vail took off going into the lead right from the gun trying to push the pace. Maria just stayed smart and walked with Joanne Dow trying to stay relaxed and comfortable for as long as possible so that she would have the strength to push when the time came. After 3km's Teresa started struggling and stepped off the course. Once Maria caught up to where Teresa was, Teresa jumped back into the race going with Maria and trying to give herself another chance to try and win this race. Unfortunately for Teresa but fortunately for Maria, it just wasnt Teresa's day and Teresa decided to step off the course for a 2nd and final time. At this point Maria was leading Joanne and it looked like as long as Maria could manage not to crash that she was going to be the winner. Maria held on and pushed to the end and won the event in her 2nd best time ever of 1:39:46, the clear winner by just over 3.5 minutes.

Coming in next for the TEAM was Lauren. Lauren started off in the lead of the 2nd pack of women. Lauren was definitely the strongest of the group and after a few laps it was just her and Oregonian Erin Gray. From about 5km's on Lauren led Erin Gray, pushing the pace and Erin just drafted off of Lauren the whole way. Lauren determined not to loose after doing all of the work and Erin doing nothing to help, Lauren kept pushing and trying to make Erin suffer. Lauren managed to drop Erin at around 16-17km's and pushed till the end. Lauren finished in an impressive 3rd place in a time of 1:44:37.

Katie rounded off the TEAM for the day completing her very first 20km's ever. She had never covered the distance in a workout or a race before but since Nationals was in her home state of Iowa, Katie was willing to take on the challenge. Katie smashed the challenge and walked a super strong race. She finished in 1:51:23 and even had a big negative split. She wasnt too far off of her 10km personal best in both of her splits, very impressive! She finished in 8th place, a great showing at her first Nationals.

Awesome job TEAM as we came away with five medals! Next up for the TEAM will be the NACAC Track and Field Champonships where Lauren will be racing over 10,000m's in Miami, Florida.

Juniors Dominate Nationals

This past Saturday, June 26th in Des Moines, Iowa the Juniors on the TEAM were set to start off the weekend of races for Champions International. The day started off with heavy rain and thunder and lightning. The boys race which was first up for the morning was postponed by 30 minutes because there was still lightning striking too close to the start time.

Once the weather cleared up, the boys were up. The gun went off and Trevor and Tyler took off from the rest of the boys immediately. Both boys were pushing hard trying to fulfill their own personal goals. After a few kilometers we could tell that Trevor was struggling to get onto his goal pace. Even though he was in the lead by 200m's he was still hoping to break his own American Jr. Record. Trevor had been very tired from the training he has done over the last few weeks and not tapering for this race. He still finished a very strong 42:58. Tyler on the other hand continued his very strong season and walked a very tough race alone and managed to finish in a personal best time of 43:53, 5 seconds better than his time from earlier this year. With Trevor and Tyler finishing 1st and 2nd, they confirmed their spots on the USA team to compete at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Moncton, Canada on July 23rd at 12:20pm.

Next up was the girls and as soon as they stepped on the line the sun came out and the humidity started to climb. Both girls were told to be very careful the first few laps since we knew the rest of the girls would shoot out of the starting line. Both girls followed the instructions and walked the first few laps together about 10-20m's back from the lead pack. Nicolette then moved up and caught up to the the lead pack. She stayed with the girls as Abby Dunn kept doing little spurts of sprints. Nicolette didnt mind Abby trying to make little moves and just stayed calm and kept thinking of just racing her own race. After each of Abby's little spurts, the girls always caught up to her. Nicolette decided to make a move and Abby went with her. As both girls moved away from the other's Abby still kept trying to make little moves but these moves didnt worry Nicolette. After awhile Abby could no longer make those little moves and Nicolette just got stronger. Nicolette made her final move which brought her to the finish line first in 56:25, winning the event by 33 seconds. At just 14 years old, Nicolette may be the youngest ever to win the 10km racewalk at Jr. Nationals. Following Nicolette was her TEAMmate Molly who pushed really hard throughout the race in really tough conditions. Even though she was struggling, she never gave up. Molly finished in 9th place in 59:54, a great time in these conditions.

Great job TEAM!
