Exciting Additions to the TEAM

We have big and exciting news about 5 new TEAM members joining Champions International. Now with a grand total of 17 athletes with the TEAM, we will be even more of a force around the USA and Canada. The new additions are Americans Amber Antonia Budahn, Janelle Brown and Rachel Zoyhofski and Canadians Bruno CarriƩre and Shannon Willford. All of these athletes have a lot of talent and have already accumulated a lot of accomplishments and are looking for more to come.

Only just a few years ago Amber Antonia Budahn was one of the top racewalkers in the US with a personal best time for 20k of 1:35:59. That time today would make her the top woman in the US and that is where she is hoping to get back to. Amber took a break from racewalking for a few years to focus on her personal goals of opening a fitness centre and doing some personal training. At only 31 years old, she now wants to make a comeback and give racewalking her all to get on the 2012 Olympic Team.

As one of the top collegiate racewalkers in the USA, Janelle Brown has made big improvements over the last year. She has dropped her best times dramatically while competing at Cornerstone University in Michigan. This past year she was All-American in both indoor and outdoor NAIA Nationals and qualified for the USATF Outdoor National Championships. With just one more year left at Cornerstone, we are looking forward to even more accomplishments to come.

In 2010, Rachel Zoyhofski was one of the top Juniors in the USA. She finished first at the World Racewalking Cup Trials and 3rd at the USATF Junior National Championships. She is currently attending Rochester Institute of Technology and is in her Sophomore year. This year she will be competing as a Senior for the first time. Rachel has so much potential and will look to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials over the next few years.

Bruno CarriƩre is the 2010 Canadian Junior Champion and represented Canada at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Canada this past summer. Bruno still has one more year as a Junior left and is looking to drop his personal best times considerably with this new system of training. He has already seen big improvements in the 2 months since training under the TEAMS system.

Shannon Willford is pretty new to racewalking. She lives in beautiful Kelowna, Bristish Columbia, Canada and is looking to get more serious with her racewalking to get to the next level. Shannon has a very active background and she likes to run, bike and cross country ski. We look forward to seeing Shannon grow this year as she dedicates herself towards racewalking.

Our TEAM has had a very successful 2010 season with several National Championship Champions and medallists. We look forward to growing upon that in the coming year and watch everyone improve to become the best racewalker they can be. Keep reading our blog as we update you on how our TEAM is doing.

Maria 2nd at 30km Championships

Yesterday in New York at the USA 30km Racewalk Championships, TEAM member Maria Michta finished in 2nd place and a new personal best. She walked her own pace throughout the whole 30k and unfortunately had to walk alone the whole time but she walked very consistent splits. She finished in 2:39:35, a PB by almost 6 minutes from last years championships. First place went to veteran Teresa Vail finishing in a new American record of 2:31:30! Very impressive for the soon to be 48 year old.

Next up for the TEAM is the 20km Master's Championships in Florida where Yandy Alvarez will look to do a good time in preparation for the 50k in January.

Stay tuned!
